Legacy of the 2002 Cmmonwealth games

The legacy of the 2002 commonwealth games was the reason for the development of sport city which is in Manchester, this also lead to making a ground for football which is used by Manchester city football club. Sport city also features the National Squash centre, Manchester Velodrome and the tennis centre as well as the state of the art gymnasium. This meant that it had a positive impact on the community due to the standards of Manchester rising and the community being a much better place with good opportunities. Due to the common wealth games Manchester has become a much sportier place due to having arising opportunities. Sport city is developed to be a venue for many sporting events. This also had a positive impact on the community due to new employment being needed and many other opportunities for the locals.

The impact sport city has had on local employment has been very positive due to more job opportunities arising and due to the fact that the common wealth games was set in Manchester it has led to winning Olympic medals in cycling and cycling has become one of the most popular sports, if the common wealth games was not set in Manchester. Manchester wouldn’t have been this successful in sports due to having no facilities to train in and people not having as much of a interest in sport whereas due to the cycling areas around Manchester (saddle worth) it has led to Manchester having some of the best cyclist this also explains why cycling is a really popular sport according to blog post 2.

Due to having sport city Manchester schools are also very fortunate due to them being able to use grounds for events they hold such as sports days etc. they can use the tracks and field to do track and field events which is much more enjoyable for children due to them being able to experience doing events on a track where famous athletes train which is good encouragement for children.
