In this blog I am going to discuss how the scale and economic importance of sport in the UK. In order to evaluate the economic importance in sport we need to understand the meaning of ‘scale’ I think the meaning of scale is how big something is for example the amount of people that are going to the Olympics or the number of sport clubs /teams there are in the United Kingdom. The amount of participants in a certain sport can also be a good example of a scale.

Knowing the meaning of economic importance is also important to find out why it’s important in the UK. Economic importance means the social and financial benefit or impact it has on sport. Some people would call economic importance a hobby, pass time, exercise, jobs, entertainment, and way of life, financial impact and tourism these are all financial and social benefits of sport which most people do or take part in.

There are many providers in sport in the UK some are public providers which are facilities and events open to everyone these are usually supplied by the council or organisations, whereas private providers would be businessmen these would be places for people who are willing to pay a certain amount of money for them to use the facilities supplies, where as voluntary providers are people who give up their own free time to coach or help people out and they have no financial benefit.

The sport industry is a very complex industry that has many components in it such as sport medicine, sport facilities, sport retail, sport coaching, sport related gambling, sport tourism, sport development, facility provision, sport spectating, health and fitness these are all important aspects of the sport industry and each component is reliant on one and another these are known as the interrelationships. From three sectors there are a wide range of organisations involved in the provision of sport and services in the UK.

There are some measures that can be taken and used such as consumer spending can be measured in sport to show the importance of sport in the UK, the participation rate can also so be taken in to account to see the scale in the industry, regeneration tool can help by providing evidence of how is has a positive effect on the environment and how sport has a economic and social benefit to society. Regenerating an area helps people appreciate the area they live in and it improves the social, economic, political and environmental benefits. Such as in 2008 sport equipment reached £1.64 billion this shows the importance of sport and now the importance has increased the economic value would have also increased.
