Participation rates in sport.

Below is the graph for the sport being participated in 4 weeks for at least 30 minutes this survey was done by sport England. Swimming is the most participated sport due to having approximately 22.00% of a participation rate in 4 weeks which is the most on the graph this can be due to men and women of all ages being allowed to swim. Swimming can be done by all people and ranges from a very young age to a very old age and this is not a sport that has to be done with a team or groups this is a antisocial sport and there is no correct speed or lengths you just do it how you want and how much you want. Whereas nationally football would be thought to be the most popular and participated sport which it isn’t this may be due to not having enough players, facilities, coaches etc. but the plus side of football would be that it is more of a social sport where you can make teams with your friends and do something as a group. 350 million days of football were done in a year by 18 and over aged people. Whereas, 650 million days of swimming were done in a year the number of swimming days is much bigger due to it being an indoor sport which is good for the health and can be done by all ages all around the year. 5 aside football centres also went up by 20% and it is reckoned the 150 more are to open this will increase football participation rates by masses.

Cycling is a much popular sport due to it being ranked 4thon the graph this is due to all ages being able to ride a bike and it being a good way to stay in shape this is a recommended exercise for all ages especially the older generation due to it being enjoyable and healthy. In 2008 8.8% of households bought a new bike this is also a positive impact of sport retail shops tend to make a lot of cycling due to it being a good strategy to reduce obesity.

Above is a graph from the sports that are participated in by students from my class this a big participation rate in football due to the class having a bigger interest in sport and most of the class being young boys which explains why the majority did football which is a biased point of view. Then again cycling also had quite a lot of participants in the last month this is due to the interest of students in my class this could never be compared as the majority of people from all ages due to people in my class having similar hobbies and interests. All the rest had approx. similar amount of people participating this was due to personal hobbies and things that interested individuals.

Participation rates also increase other aspects of sport. Such as for participating in certain sports equipment and kit would be needed this will increase the amount sport retail make this will also increase sport med due to more sport injuries increasing due to participation this will also increase sport medication rates. If participation rates increase sport facilities would be needed to improve and developed so that there are more and sport coaches would need to be hired so that participants professionalise In sports and the other aspects such as sport gambling, sport spectating and sport tourism would also increase due to having more things to bet on and more opportunities to spectate and travel to spectate other games. this will increase the amount of talent and there would be more of a selection to choose from when finding talent and the level of competition will increase.
